Mastectomy Bra & Breast Prosthesis Fitting
Finding the right post-surgical bra or breast prosthesis after a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or reconstruction surgery can be a deeply personal—and sometimes overwhelming—experience. At the Ottawa Cancer & Lymphatics Centre, we offer professional, compassionate, and personalized fittings in a private, supportive environment to help you feel confident and comfortable in your body again.
Whether you're navigating your options for the first time or returning for a re-fit, our certified fitters are here to guide you every step of the way.
Our team works closely with your oncology or surgical care plan to ensure your bras and/or prosthetics support lymphatic health, minimize pressure on sensitive tissue, and reduce risk of complications like lymphedema.
Our fitting appointments are designed for anyone who has undergone breast surgery, including:
- Mastectomy (single or bilateral)
- Lumpectomy or partial mastectomy
- Breast reconstruction
- Radiation therapy that has altered breast tissue or shape
We welcome all body types, all identities, and all stages of recovery. Our fitters focus on health care first, and fashion second- ensuring you are feeling comfortable, supported, and confident.
What to Expect During a Fitting
Every fitting begins with a private, one-on-one appointment with a certified mastectomy bra and prosthesis fitter who understands the physical and emotional aspects of post-surgical recovery.
During your session, we will:
- Discuss your medical history and current needs
- Assess fit, comfort, skin sensitivity, and symmetry
- Provide a selection of bras and breast forms that match your size, shape, and preferences
- Offer guidance on product care and wear
- Ensure you feel confident, secure, and supported before you leave
We carry a selection of pocketed bras, partial shapers, full prostheses, and non-surgical breast forms in a variety of materials, shapes, and tones to suit your comfort and lifestyle.
When Should You Book a Fitting?
We recommend booking your fitting when:
- You’re pre-op and in need of a compression bra/vest
- You’re 6–8 weeks post-surgery and cleared for regular bra wear
- You’re ready to transition from post-op compression garments to long-term support
- Your current prosthesis or bra no longer fits comfortably
- You’ve had recent weight changes, surgery revisions, or radiation therapy
- You simply want to explore new options or update your wardrobe
We are proud to carry breast prosthesis that are eligible for the Ontario Assistive Devices Program (ADP). This means eligible clients can receive partial funding from the government toward the cost of their prostheses. During your fitting, we’ll walk you through the application process and help ensure you have the documentation needed to receive your reimbursement.
