Melanoma Rehabilitation
At Ottawa Cancer and Lymphatics Centre, we offer specialized rehabilitation services for those recovering from melanoma and other skin cancers.

Whether your cancer was detected early or required more extensive treatment, the journey can be both physically and emotionally complex. We’re here to walk with you every step of the way.
Melanoma treatment often includes surgery to remove tumors and/or lymph nodes, and may also involve immunotherapy, chemotherapy, or radiation. These treatments can lead to scarring, swelling, pain, and changes in sensation or appearance—particularly in sensitive areas like the face, neck, scalp, or limbs. We provide personalized, evidence-based care that helps you heal physically while supporting your emotional wellbeing and confidence.
Our services are tailored to meet your needs and concerns, wherever you are at in your cancer journey. Whether you’re in the early stages of healing or long into survivorship our team provides one-on-one care in a supportive, respectful environment to help restore your quality of life. We offer services including:
- Physiotherapy: Our physiotherapists help restore movement, reduce compensatory pain, and improve your strength and posture after surgery or lymph node dissection. We also offer support for fatigue, nerve damage, and challenges with mobility.
- Massage Therapy: Therapeutic massage can ease pain, reduce post-operative swelling, relieve tension, and promote circulation and healing. Our approach is always gentle and adapted to your comfort and treatment timeline.
- Kinesiology: Our kinesiologists develop individualized movement programs that help restore strength, flexibility, and confidence. We guide you through safe, achievable exercises that support your return to everyday life and long-term physical wellness.
- Scar Management: We use manual techniques, soft tissue mobilization, and patient education to improve scar flexibility, reduce discomfort, and minimize adhesions that may restrict movement or cause cosmetic concerns.
- Lymphedema Management: Melanoma treatments involving lymph node removal can lead to chronic swelling. Our certified lymphedema therapists provide complete decongestive therapy (CDT), compression garment fitting, manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), and education for self-care at home.
- Psychotherapy: A melanoma diagnosis can trigger anxiety, depression, and body image challenges—especially when treatment affects the face or visible areas. Our registered therapists offer supportive, trauma-informed mental health care to help you process and cope.
- Dietetics: Our registered dietitian provides personalized plans to help manage appetite changes, digestive issues, or fatigue during and after treatment. Good nutrition supports immune function, healing, and energy during recovery.
- Acupuncture: (Coming soon!) May help alleviate treatment side effects such as fatigue, pain, nausea, and stress by supporting your body's natural healing responses.
